With 4.6 million volumes, 9% Latin Americana, the KU Libraries are a leading research resource in the region. KU Libraries maintain a wide range of electronic information resources, including 32,000 full-text journals, and over 450 databases accessible world-wide through library, campus and home computers. In 2008 the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) ranked KU 22nd among all US public university libraries by collection size. The full time staff of 165 is spread across 8 units. KU Libraries is also at the forefront of open access to scholarly work.
The Latin American collection, with more than 492,000 volumes, over 12,924 periodical titles, and access to hundreds of journals electronically, is among the largest of US collections. KU’s Central American collection is in the top 3 nationally with over 157,000 items, many in Special Collections. KU’s Latin Americana includes particular strength in Central America, Paraguay, Cuba, Haiti, and Mexico.
