Virtual Latin America
Feeling cooped up in your home? Feeling an itch to travel? Well, you’re in luck! You’re invited to join the KU Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies as we travel abroad (virtually) to countries throughout Latin America. Supported by National Resource Center funds from the U.S. Department of Education, our partners and friends in countries like Costa Rica, Guatemala, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador and Mexico are all eager to welcome you digitally into their homes or to take you on a tour of sites of historical, cultural, and ecological significance.
Our Virtual Latin America experiences will give you the opportunity to “visit” coffee farms in Costa Rica and Guatemala, “fly” to Salvador, Bahía, Brazil to watch a live Capoeira performance, “venture” into the forest of the Amazon, and much more! In cases where we can livestream, the audience will be able to interact with the people on the ground.
However, as you can imagine, internet connectivity is hard to come by in the Amazon forest or on top of a volcano, and so for these instances our friends will play a recorded video of their site trip and then field questions from our audience. Regardless of the format, Latin America has so much to offer, and we hope that our virtual travel abroad experiences will give you a peek at what’s happening around the region.
Are you a K-12 teacher, student or KU student? We invite you to join us free-of-charge! All of our planned visits can offer asynchronous or weekend synchronous educational opportunities for your students to learn about Latin America through a variety of subjects such as, geography, social studies, ecology, and more. We'd love to work with you to incorporate the content into your classroom. Contact Deputy Director Aron Muci at email@example.com for more details.
