Committees
The Undergraduate Committee provides oversight for matters concerning the B.A. and B.G.S. Programs in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Committee members are selected for three-year terms, and may be core or affiliate faculty; they should be broadly representative of Latin Americanist scholars and scholarship at the University of Kansas, as well as representative of the Center’s curricula. Standing charges are to:
- Provide oversight for matters concerning the B.A. and B.G.S. Programs in Latin American and Caribbean Studies;
- Revise program information and update undergraduate booklets, website, and related materials;
- Nominate undergraduate students for on-campus scholarships and fellowships;
- Advise the Director and Undergraduate Director on curriculum planning, review, and revision of the undergraduate program, helping coordinate with other departments and disciplines across campus;
- Appoint a subcommittee to hear and evaluate undergraduate student petitions; and
- Coordinate undergraduate assessment and senior exit surveys.
Committee Members, 2020-2023 Term
The Graduate Committee provides oversight for matters concerning the M.A. Program in Latin American & Caribbean Studies. Committee members are selected for three-year terms, and may be core or affiliate faculty; they should be broadly representative of Latin Americanist scholars and scholarship at the University of Kansas, as well as representative of the Center’s curricula. Standing charges are to:
- Evaluate applications for admission to the graduate program;
- Evaluate applications for fellowships, awards and GTA position;
- Advise the Director and the Associate Director on curriculum planning, review and revision of the graduate program;
- Prepare recruitment materials;
- Revise program information and update website and graduate materials;
- Coordinate course offerings with other programs and departments on campus;
- Evaluate graduate student petitions and grievances;
- Nominate students for on-campus scholarships, fellowships and GTA position;
- Coordinate graduate assessment;
- Organize the Graduate Research Symposium in March; and
- Assist the Director, the Assistant Director and the Office Manager in compiling data and preparing periodic reports on Graduate admissions and student progress.
Committee Members, 2019-2022 Term




The Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies Executive Committee plays the largest role in CLACS oversight with core faculty members spanning the University, including scholars from the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, professional schools, the library, and the CLACS Director and Associate Director. Major duties include development, interpretation, and implementation of policies, grant development, curricular changes, scholarly awards, and a variety of other activities.
