Call for Papers

Due XXX

Abstracts for individual papers, panels, and workshop proposals are invited. While abstracts on any aspect of Latinx and/or Latin American theatre and/or performance are very welcome, the general focus of the conference is incarceration: literal and figurative, political and existential, professional and personal. How do custody, detention, and incarceration shape societies? What are the antonyms or antidotes to incarceration?

We will use an exciting new (optional) presentation format: presentations for this option will be a maximum of seven minutes, a format inspired by Pecha Kucha (short, slide-based talks that introduce audiences to new information and lead to engaged discussion). Individual abstracts or proposals for panels of 3-4 participants are welcome. Each hour-long session will have under 30 minutes of presentations and 30 minutes of discussion. Session chairs will offer guiding questions to facilitate discussions. Presentations may be given in English, Portuguese, or Spanish.

Proposals for workshops are also welcome and should include the duration of the workshop and the maximum number of participants, in addition to the information stated above for abstracts.

Abstracts and proposals must be received by October 1, 2019 (send to day@ku.edu), and must include the following:

  • Title of the presentation / panel
  • A 250-word summary of the presentation / panel (in English, Portuguese, or Spanish)
  • Participant’s name(s), academic affiliation(s) (if applicable), and email address(es).
