Graduate Committee

The Graduate Committee provides oversight for matters concerning the M.A. Program in Latin American & Caribbean Studies. Committee members are selected for three-year terms, and may be core or affiliate faculty; they should be broadly representative of Latin Americanist scholars and scholarship at the University of Kansas, as well as representative of the Center’s curricula. Standing charges are to:

  1. Evaluate applications for admission to the graduate program;
  2. Evaluate applications for fellowships, awards and GTA position;
  3. Advise the Director and the Associate Director on curriculum planning, review and revision of the graduate program;
  4. Prepare recruitment materials;
  5. Revise program information and update website and graduate materials;
  6. Coordinate course offerings with other programs and departments on campus;
  7. Evaluate graduate student petitions and grievances;
  8. Nominate students for on-campus scholarships, fellowships and GTA position;
  9. Coordinate graduate assessment;
  10. Organize the Graduate Research Symposium in March; and
  11. Assist the Director, the Assistant Director and the Office Manager in compiling data and preparing periodic reports on Graduate admissions and student progress.
